I recently bought myself a beauty dish, and these portraits of Duan Wanty and Kathryn Marnewick were part of the test shoot to get a feel for how this light modifier works. The shoot was also a collaboration with Conley van der Westhuizen – Conley did the set up and the lighting, while I took the photographs and directed the models.

Duan is an aspiring actor, and was part of the cast on the Tropika Island of Treasure 5 reality TV series I shot in Jamaica in November 2012.

Kathryn is a professional make-up artist, and we also met in Jamaica, as she was doing the make-up for the TV series.

Equipment used included a beauty dish on a boom stand, softboxes, a snoot, black vinyl backdrop, Canon 5D mark iii and a 24-105mm lens.

Special thanks to Kathryn Marnewick for the lovely hair, make-up and styling.
