Angie and I studied Photography together in 2000, but she discovered that her passion was in make-up and pursued a career as a professional make-up artist. Her background in Photography gives her an advantage as a make-up artist because she understands light and how the camera captures make-up. Angie was also recently a finalist in the 2011 Elle Magazine Make-up Artist New Talent Search, but if you ask me, she should have won!
Earlier this year Angie and her long-term love decided to make things official. Naturally my gift to the happy couple was an e-shoot.
Angie is fantastic at project management, and she organised a gorgeous old piano and a location near Cullinan on a piece of private property. She carefully planned the wardrobe for the shoot, and obviously she did her own make-up!
Practically the entire shoot was shot into the sun to create a hazy, dreamy, warm vintage feel. This in itself was a challenge to me because looking into the setting sun for almost 4 hours was immensely difficult to check their expressions as the couple were silhouetted against the bright background. In order to have detail in the shadow areas, I exposed for their faces and over exposed by 1 – 2 stops depending on how the light was at that moment. Most of the images were shot using one of my most loved lenses, the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II lens.
Below is a selection of my favourite images from the afternoon.
Congratulations Angie and Werner, I look forward to the big day!
