Earlier this week I photographed my beautiful (inside & out!) cousin, Cara de Kock for her entry to the BBC Lifestyle Eric Lanlard cupcake competition.

The photos were taken at Cara’s gorgeous vintage inspired home in Melville – one of my favourite locations to shoot in, as there is no shortage of interesting props and the house has the most magnificent natural light.

The cupcake photos were shot with ambient light and a 90mm f/2.8 macro lens to create a dreamy shallow depth of field, while Cara’s portraits were lit with a single Elinchom studio light and shot with my very versatile 24-105mm f/4 lens. This was also my first shoot with my shiny new Canon 5D mark iii!

Cara bakes to order, cupcakes and a variety of healthier options, so if you are planning a special event, or even just require freshly-made daily lunch deliveries to your office, contact Cara at cara.foodie@gmail.com You won’t be disappointed!

Good luck Cara! I’ve tasted your cupcakes and they are most certainly a winning recipe!

Hi Rikki

I love the pictures you took of Cara and her cupcakes, it looks like she had as much fun as I did in a photo shoot for the same competition. Really sad that cupcakes like Cara’s and mine didn’t make it to the shortlist as they look delectable! Love your photography! Lisa

Hi Lisa, ah… sorry to hear your cupcake also weren’t in the top 10, clearly the judges were “baking mad” ;-) Anytime you need photos of your cupcakes please give me a shout!
