Tutorial: How to Get a Crisp Blue Sky in a Photograph

Have you ever taken a photograph of a beautiful scene only to be disappointed at how washed out the sky looks?

The good news is that the solution to getting a crisp blue sky is so easy.

Simply look at which direction the sun is, and then shoot your subject or scene with the sun directly behind you.

Remember that the lower the angle of the sun (ie: early morning) the bluer the sky will become.

You can make the sky an even darker shade of blue by over exposing by up to one stop.

Be aware when photographing people this way – bear in mind that they will be looking towards the sun, so consider using a skrim to protect their eyes and soften the light on their face.
