A few years ago I met face-to-face with a truck that skipped a red traffic light, and suffered severe whiplash as a result. Spending my days with a rather cumbersome Canon 5D Mark II dangling around my neck aggravates the old injury, and when my neck hurts, I get grumpy, and when I get grumpy, my creativity suffers.

Design

Enter Black Rapid RS-5. This revolutionary design takes the weight off your neck as this camera strap is worn diagonally across your body rather than being suspended from a fragile neck. It’s like having a hands-free kit for your camera. Your camera hangs securely upside down at your waist, ready to grab, glide, and shoot, all in one easy, smooth motion.

“Upside down?!” That’s correct! The strap attaches to the tripod socket underneath your camera using a ConnectR and FastenR. The FastenR screws into the tripod socket, and is made from solid sock stainless steel, has a high quality rubber compression washer and an integrated D-ring. The ConnectR has a smooth swivel that locks onto the D-ring on the FastenR.

“But what about the tripod quick release plate?” BlackRapid thought about this already last year launched the FastenR-T1, a D-ring that attaches to your tripod base plate, making moving from shooting with R-strap to tripod quick and easy. Currently BlackRapid only have D-rings compatible with Manfrotto 200PL and similar rectangular base plates.

Comfort

This camera strap is built for comfort. Once you have adjusted the strap so that the padded section rests on your shoulder, you will instantly notice the soft cushion comfort and breathability of the fabric.

Storage

The Black Rapid RS-5 has zippered pockets for business cards, memory cards, spare batteries, and even a pocket for your smart phone.

A lot of thought when into this design –compartments close with a magnetic clasp which works silently, especially handy for those noise-sensitive situations.

Over the past 10 years, I have upgraded my camera and computer (several times), lenses, even my tripod. The one thing I never thought of upgrading was my camera strap. Upgrading to the BlackRapid system will make you wonder camera straps like this are not a standard on every dSLR camera sold.

Purchase your own BlackRapid RS-5 for R610 from Sunshine Co.

Ooh, this looks nice. I often wear my strap across my shoulder like this, but it results in a lot of shuffling around. that sliding strap will be pretty cool.

It’s very comfortable, especially for photo walks, photographing when traveling etc, as it gives you more freedom and flexibility.
